Meet Aydrea

Aydrea Walden is an Emmy-nominated writer, performer, and creative leader whose work spans kids’ television, live-action comedy, and features. Her work can be seen on Netflix, Disney, and Nickelodeon, and more. She is the creator and star of the acclaimed web series BLACK GIRL IN A BIG DRESS, a period drama-inspired comedy that has earned a devoted fanbase for its wit, charm, and unapologetically nerdy joy. Her voice—smart, funny, and sneakily heartfelt—brings humanity and levity to complex characters, whether they’re hamsters in tiny capes or women navigating big historical wigs and even bigger emotions.

A former journalist and featured performer on THE MOTH podcast, Aydrea’s career reflects her passion for making big ideas accessible and emotionally impactful to anyone in the audience - whether she’s explaining wormholes to four-year-olds on ADA TWIST, SCIENTIST or exploring race and gender through comedy that resonates across ideologies on BLACK GIRL IN A BIG DRESS. She recently served as Head Writer on the new PBS series PHEOBE & JAY, was Story Editor for HAMSTERS OF HAMSTERDALE, and channeled her own co-parenting experience into an episode of ICARLY. Her TikTok channel, DISAPPOINTING MY ANCESTORS, turns bite-sized comedy into a community that bonds over cultural duality, family drama, and why no one should ever go camping.

She is also a speaker, performer, reluctant golfer, and the proud human to two extremely needy cats who treat every closed door as a personal betrayal. Aydrea has proudly labelled every charging brick in her house according to what room it’s supposed to be in—because chaos is inevitable, but being without a power source in reach doesn’t have to be. She makes an excellent shepherd’s pie and can probably be bribed with a scone.
